At the NLBA’s AGM in June 2011 the following recommendation was made and approved:
  • School championships will change permanently to grade base tournaments.
  • The NLBA will increase the registration fees for the all minor tournaments by $25.00.

Please note the following:
  • By entering any of these events, coaches agree to abide by the rules of the NLBA.
  • The NLBA office and the minor committee will determine which teams go to the “A”, “B” or “C” events.
  • There is no need to place a formal protest for ineligible players. The game is automatically defaulted. Opposing team wins by 20-0 score.
  • There will be sanctions and / or fines for teams that withdraw from an event after it starts.
  • Back of applications must be complete with mailing addresses, postal codes, birth dates, phone numbers, MCP #’s and emails at least 14 days prior to the tournament!

Please note your spot will not be secured if the funds are not received with the application.


2012 Minor School Basketball Championships Hosting Application
Please download a copy of the “2012 Provincial Minor Basketball Hosting Application”.

Please circle or highlight the tournament(s) you wish to host. The dates have been decided by the NLBA to ensure ample officials for all events, taking into consideration SSNL and senior events and the Volleyball season. Please note the “A” “B” and “C” divisions added in various categories. If you circle more than one, please number your requests in order of priority. The deadline for applications is October 31, 2011.

FAQ - Minor School Provincial Tournaments
1. Can athletes / teams play-up as they have they have in the past?
Yes, individual athletes and / or teams can play up in an higher grade level tournament. For example: Grade 7's can play in the grade 8 (Intermediate) tournament.

2. Can athletes / teams play in a lower grade level?
No, an individual athletes and / or teams cannot play in a lower grade tournament. For example: Grade 7 athletes or teams cannot play in a grade 6 tournament.

3. If an athlete is one or two years older than your usual grade age level, can that athlete play with their school grade team?
Yes. As long as the athlete is in that specific grade, they can participate with their grade team. For example, an athlete in grade 8 who may have been kept behind a year or so for whatever year is permitted to play with their grade 8 team.

4. Can a team have two or three athletes in this situation?

Yes, there is no limit on the amount of overaged players as long as the athletes are in specific grade.

  • The East and West Coast will be divided at Gander, with Gander included in the West Coast Category
  • Exceptions may be permitted upon submission of written requests sent to the office for executive approval.
  • All ages are as of January 1st, of that year.
